When I noticed that my work tee was no longer good enough condition to be considered professional, I was faced with a decision. Do I throw it away? Or do I follow the principle of The Clothing Project and do what I can to keep more clothing waste out of landfill?
Obviously I chose to practice what we preach here at The Clothing Project, and I made a tote bag!!! β»οΈ π
Read all about how I did it in our blog:

π
That long weekend before school starts… phew!
Before the lunchboxes come back out and routines kick in, now’s the perfect time to tackle those drawers and wardrobes. If it’s too small or just didn’t get the love you hoped it would, it might be ready for a new home π
If items are clean and in good condition, we’d love to pass them on to tamariki who will truly adore them π

π£ Pssst… did you know?
Even if you follow our page, social media algorithms mean you might not see all of our posts π²
That means you could be missing:
β¨ our monthly stats showing how many tamariki received parcels
β¨ shout-outs to the amazing people and organisations in our community
β¨ and those important call-outs when we’re really in need of donations
Here’s where you come in π
β€οΈ Like posts - This is the simplest action, but it signals to the algorithm that the content matters.
π¬ Comment on posts - Even a short comment like “Love this” or an emoji boosts visibility a lot.
π Share posts to your feed - This helps your own friends and whΔnau see our work — especially those who don’t follow us yet.
π² Share posts to your stories - One of the most powerful tools! Stories reach different people and are quick to tap through.
π· Tag friends or whΔnau - Perfect for donation call-outs or community shout-outs.
π Save posts - Saving posts (especially guides or call-outs) tells the platform the content is valuable.
π Turn on post notifications - Means you never miss important updates or urgent requests.
And it doesn’t stop online π
Talking about us in real life, telling your friends and whΔnau about who we are and what we do, makes a huge difference too. Word of mouth is powerful π
By spreading the word, you’re helping more people discover The Clothing Project — a local charity supporting tamariki and whΔnau when they need it most.
We truly can’t do this without our community. Thank you for being part of it! π«

π Thank you, CReW! π
A huge shout-out to our wonderful friends at Community Resources WhakatΔne for their incredibly generous donation of children’s books and soft toys.
These treasures will be popping into our gift parcels once our orders reopen to bring smiles to so many tamariki β¨
It’s so special to see community initiatives coming together, supporting one another, and working collectively to uplift local whΔnau — this is what community is all about ππ€
Feeling inspired to donate or volunteer? Get in touch with us — we’d love to hear from you! π

This year, we’re rolling out some exciting projects that help us support even more whΔnau — and do it smarter, kinder, and more sustainably π
π Measuring our impact – we’ll be weighing incoming donations to better understand just how much clothing we’re keeping out of landfill and passing on to families who need it.
𧦠Socks & undies for schools – while we only pack new undies in our parcels, we often receive secondhand ones. Instead of wasting them, we’re starting a small initiative to pass clean, good-quality spares on to local schools who are often calling out for extras.
π More kindy boxes – we’ll be getting even more spare clothing boxes out to local daycares who need them.
π€ Getting out and about – attending expos to connect, share what we do, and grow our community.
π¬ An awesome fundraiser is also in the works… shhhh π more on that soon!
With your support, together we can help even more families feel clothed, cared for, and valued in 2026 π«
Thank you for being part of our journey.

β¨ 2026 is the International Year of Volunteers! β¨
The UN General Assembly has officially declared 2026 a year to celebrate volunteers — the first time since 2001! And at The Clothing Project, our volunteers are truly the heart of what we do π
From sorting donations and packing clothing parcels, to washing clothes and picking up from our drop-off locations — there’s a role for everyone, and every bit helps our community thrive.
π
Our first volunteering session for 2026 is Wednesday 4 February
π Keen to join our incredible team this year? If you’ve got some time on a Wednesday or Friday morning and a big heart, or just want to find out more, flick me a message — we’d love to have you! All ages, genders and abilities are welcome π
Don't forget to share this post and spread the word! Volunteering is even more fun when you bring a friend!
